With any horse that has the ever famous and highly respected ‘Om El’ prefix in its name, one or more (with the latter preferred) crosses to Spanish breed queen Estopa and her highly influential son El Shaklan can always be expected. Om El Bellatrix is a beautiful grey mare that has been blessed with the beloved ‘Om El beauty,’ style, Spanish type and of course, those broodmare abilities that put Om El Arab on the map and that everyone is dying to have.
What I love about Om El Bellatrix is that both her paternal and maternal grand dams are direct daughters of Estopa. She is sired by US National Champion and International Champion Producer – Om El Shahmaan, who also boasts two crosses to the aristocratic Estopa through Sanadik El Shaklan and Om El Shaina. After his ‘golden cross’ sire Sanadik El Shaklan, Om El Shahmaan has been one of the forerunners and progenitors of the El Shaklan legacy. Sired by World Champion Carmague, Om El Shaina has been one of the greatest producing Estopa daughters to date.
Om El Bellatrix’s dam, the stunning Om El Berenice Dream, is the result of breeding an Egyptian related stallion to the intense Spanish mares of the Om El Stud; a cross that brought immense success to the show as well as breeding aspects of the stud. She is sired by the black king of Haras De Cardenas – Dreamcatcher SMF, who brings with him crosses to Egyptian Event Supreme Champions – BB Thee Renegade and Thee Desperado, Scottsdale Champion – Shaia+ and US Triple Crown and World Champion – Simeon Shai.
Om El Berenice Dream’s dam is another one of Estopa’s greatest producing daughters – the ethereal Om El Beneera. Om El Beneera’s sire, Scottsdale Champion Sharem El Sheikh adds the last cross to brood matron Estopa, making that a staggering total of 4 crosses to this Spanish queen. With all this highly influential and aristocratic blood flowing through Om El Bellatrix, it is no surprise to see that she is continuing this level of excellence. Her daughter Belladonna AT by Wadee Al Shaqab is a glorious show filly and has won the 2016 Qatar International Gold Yearling Filly title.
Om El Bellatrix is proving to be a great asset to the Al Thumama program and with a pedigree heavily lavished with Estopa, phenotype that is praised by the world and breeding career that has started off so successfully, she is bound to shoot the Al Thumama name to the stars.
